Information on play areas and facilities for children.
We currently manage 36 playgrounds, catering for age groups ranging from four years to twelve years, with teenage equipment on several sites. The playgrounds strike a balance between providing challenging and stimulating play and learning and meeting current safety requirements.
The council recognises the needs of local children to have a safe place to play, and sets out how children's play opportunities will be improved, with particular emphasis on those areas of the borough with greatest need. The council adopted a policy for unsupervised children's playgrounds following consultation with local groups.
Some play areas are not managed by the council. If the play area you are looking for is not in listed, it is privately managed either by Better leisure facilities, the various town and parish councils, or a housing association. Please contact the relevant organisation.
Our play areas are inspected weekly with additional checks done during the week. Our Play Area Officer has many years' experience of looking after these areas. All officers and managers who work on the play areas are trained by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and undertake retraining every three years.
If you have any suggestions, comments or feedback regarding our facilities please contact the Council.
