Council Tax rebate

We are providing a a one-off payment of £150 to eligible Council Tax payers (bands A to D) to help with the cost of living.

Who is eligible

You may be eligible if, on 1 April 2022, you occupied a property:

  • valued in council tax bands A – D*
  • as your sole or main residence
  • liable for Council Tax, or exempt as it was:
    • occupied only by full-time students
    • occupied only by under 18s
    • occupied only by a person(s) who is (are) severely mentally impaired
    • an occupied annexe to an occupied dwelling
  • or, that meets all the criteria but isn't liable for Council Tax due to local Council Tax support.

*or in Band E but qualifies for the disabled reduction.

Who is not eligible

Properties will not be eligible if they:

  • have no permanent resident and are someone’s second home
  • are an unoccupied property.

Landlords of a house of multiple occupation (HMO) are also not eligible.

How to receive the payment

If you currently have a direct debit with us for Council Tax we will automatically issue the payment from 11 April 2022.

If you are eligible but do not have a current direct debit with us you can apply for the payment online.

Further support

We recognise that there are other households are not covered by the Council Tax Rebate scheme.  We will also be offering a discretionary Council Tax Rebate Scheme.
