Climate Change

What you can do to help

Read the Hertfordshire Climate Change and Sustainability Partnership's online guide with suggested actions that can be taken at home and in the community to live more sustainably.

Sustainable energy and water use

Sustainable travel

  • try to walk or cycle wherever possible
  • take public transport
  • try car sharing and find out more about low carbon travel
  • if you have to drive, make sure you drive efficiently to reduce carbon and your costs
  • consider buying or leasing or hiring an electric car, we now have many electric charging points in the borough
  • avoid flying as it produces 2.4% of all global CO2 emissions
  • help Hertfordshire County Council identify potential future EV chargepoint locations by providing your postcode if there isn't any in your local area.

Sustainable diet

  • try and reduce diary and meat consumption
  • buy local produce to reduce food miles, we have a regular farmer's market in Hatfield
  • reduce food waste and use your food waste caddy. Check out Waste Aware's campaign #WorthSaving for tips!
  • make ethical food choices (Fair trade)

Sustainable purchasing and consumption

Resilience to climate change

  • adding insulation, fitting blinds and using a water butt can all help to make your home more resilient to climate change
  • take steps to make your home weather ready to cope with extreme conditions
