Food Hygiene Rating Scheme

Our food officers regularly inspect food outlets in Welwyn Hatfield, such as restaurants, takeaways and pubs. This is to check their hygiene standards meet legal requirements.

The ratings from these inspections are published on the Food Hygiene Ratings website.

Businesses have a right to reply; an opportunity to explain to potential customers anything they feel may have affected their food hygiene rating.  They can also outline actions taken since the inspection to improve hygiene standards. It is not an opportunity to complain or criticise the food hygiene rating scheme or the inspecting officer.

If you think that the rating you have been awarded is wrong or unfair you can appeal within 21 days of receipt of the notification letter.  The council then has 21 days to consider your appeal.

If you want to request a revisit you must explain what actions you have taken on the issues raised at your last inspection and include supporting evidence to show that work has been completed. This is important as we may refuse your request if you do not provide sufficient information and evidence. Your rating may go up/down or stay the same depending on what the food officer finds at the time of the revisit inspection. The revisit will be unannounced.
