We monitor air quality to protect and inform the community
We currently use diffusion tubes to monitor NO2 at 33 strategically placed locations across the borough. They are distributed on a monthly basis and returned to a laboratory for analysis. We also have a BAM1020 PM2.5 automatic roadside air quality analyser located in Hatfield.
We are part of the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Air Pollution Monitoring Network and our monitoring data can be found on the Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire Air Quality website. Please also look at our air quality progress reports under related media.
The air quality in Welwyn Hatfield is currently good and we are working hard to try and maintain this.
We have been getting enquries with regards to the release of the 2019 air qaulity progress report. The report was submitted to DEFRA in July 2019. We are currently waiting for them to appraise the report before it is released. We will release a copy of DEFRA's appraisal and our 2019 air quality progress report in due course.
Air pollution alerts
You can sign up to an alert service which sends you a text or email when levels of air pollution in your area increase to a moderate level or above. The alerts are sent out before moderate, high, or very high levels of air pollution are forecast.
It's free to sign up and enables you to find out when air pollution is at elevated levels in the area in which you live, work, or travel. The service is provided by our partners, Ricardo Energy and Environment.
