Mardley Heath Woodland Management Plan Consultation
We would like your views on our plan for managing Mardley Heath Woodland over the next ten years. The consultation will open on Monday 8 December and close on Tuesday 30 December.
Our vision
Our vision is for Mardley Heath to remain a diverse landscape of woodland and open habitats, supporting biodiversity and offering a safe, welcoming space for all.
We manage the wood in line with a 10-year management plan, developed in collaboration with the Forestry Commission and Natural England.
The current plan runs until the end of 2025, and a new plan has been prepared to guide the next decade of care.
Our aim is to continue to build resistance and resilience to potential threats such as climate change, pests and diseases, by focusing on the following priorities:
- Promoting the structural, age and species diversity in the woodland.
- Encouraging natural regeneration and applying traditional methods like coppicing to increase tree species diversity.
- Conserving both existing and emerging habitats, including grasslands, heathlands, open spaces, ponds, veteran trees, and dense understorey.
- Supporting local wildlife, including birds, small mammals, and invertebrates.
- Preserving the wood’s historical features.
- Monitoring and managing threats from pests, diseases, and invasive species.
We also recognise the importance of the wood to both the local community and its visitors. We're committed to maintaining a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for all, while also supporting its role in the local economy.
