Street Trading Policy consultation

We are consulting on proposed changes to our Street Trading Policy, which sets out how street trading is managed across Welwyn Hatfield. 

The policy aims to support vibrant town centres while protecting public health and safety, ensuring traders operate fairly and legally, and preventing nuisance and anti-social behaviour. 

What is changing? 

Under the proposals, all streets across Welwyn Hatfield would become consent streets. This means that anyone wishing to carry out street trading would generally need permission from the Council before they can trade. 

The definition of a street can include roads and footways as well as other publicly accessible areas, such as car parks, industrial estates and parks.

Traders operating on private land would also need the landowner’s permission.
