Energy Price Guarantee
The government have announced an Energy Price Guarantee which will mean a typical UK household will pay no more than £2,500 a year on their energy bill for the next two years. This is automatic and applies to all households.
Energy Bill Support Scheme
The Energy Bill Support Scheme means £400 off energy bills for households in Great Britain from this October.
You do not need to repay this discount. It will be given in six instalments between October 2022 and March 2023.
There is no need to apply for the scheme and you will not be asked for your bank details.
Pre-payment meters
If you are on a traditional prepayment meter you will get the discount as a voucher or automatic credit from the first week of each month.
These will be sent via text message or email so make sure your supplier has your correct contact details.
Energy Bills Support Scheme - Alternative Funding (EBSS-Alternative Funding)
There are a number of households who pay for their electricity in a different way and do not have a direct relationship with their supplier, such as those who pay through a commercial intermediary, and so will not receive support through the Energy Bills Support Scheme. This scheme (EBSS-Alternative Funding) has been set up to provide the payment to these households.
The EBSS-Alternative Funding is a one-off £400 non-repayable discount to eligible households who have not received the main EBSS payment to help with their energy bills, but who are still facing increased energy costs.
Please note that this scheme is now closed.
Alternative Fuel Payment Alternative Fund (AFP AF)
The Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) scheme is launched 6 March 2023, providing an additional £200 support payment for households that use fuels other than gas to heat their homes. The Government have confirmed that most households eligible for AFP support will receive payment automatically via their electricity supplier in February, with no further action needed.
Please note that this scheme is now closed.
Council Tax Energy Rebate
If you are a Council Tax payer (bands A to D) and pay by direct debit you should have received a £150 energy rebate.
