How we contact you about your Council Tax

If you fall behind with your Council Tax payments, and we have your contact details, our partners Liberata may contact you on our behalf.

We will aim to do this by text, email, telephone or voice message, before we start formal proceedings.

This is to help stop you becoming further behind with your payments and avoid paying more costs.

It is still your responsibility to keep up with your payments and you should not rely on us being able to contact you in the ways above.

We will still send any statutory reminder notices, final notices or court summons, by post.

How to tell a message is from us

It is important to be on the look out for scam messages.

Here are some tips for spotting a genuine message from us:

  • if your device supports Rich Communication Services (RCS) you will see that we are a verified sender
  • links in our messages will always include welhat.gov.uk
  • our SMS text messages will be titled 'WelHat BC'
  • our emails will be from 'info.welhat.gov.uk'
  • our voice calls will be from 0333 034 3014
