Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is currently consulting on a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) draft charging schedule. This is a locally set planning charge to raise contributions from new development towards the delivery of necessary supporting infrastructure. It is a fixed rate based on the size, type and viability of development and is non-negotiable.
Whilst the Council has consulted on CIL before, given changes to the national and local economy in recent years this consultation is based on up-to-date viability work.
How CIL works and is calculated is set out in the draft charging schedule which is underpinned by extensive viability work.
In order for CIL to be introduced, following the consultation the proposed rates must be considered by an independent examiner. Subject to the consultation, the Council is aiming to introduce CIL by the end of 2024.

The consultation will run until 21 February 2024.
Please note that the deadline for this consultation has been extended to 5.00pm on Wednesday 28 February
