 Remembering Councillor Roger Trigg

Our family is heartbroken at the loss of our beloved husband, dad and grandad.  He was the centre of all of our lives, and our family will be forever shaped by his love and guidance.

He dedicated his life to public service for over 25 years and was honoured to serve his community as Mayor.

Above all, he was a devoted, kind and loving family man.  No role was more important to him than being a husband, dad and grandad, and his greatest pride was the time spent with his family.

We will always cherish the many memories, laughter and love we shared with him.

We are very grateful for the kindness, messages and support we have received.  He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Councillor Trigg’s son Adam on behalf of the family

It was with immense sadness that I learnt of Roger’s passing at the weekend.  He was a long-serving councillor at Welwyn Hatfield, a former Mayor and a Cabinet Member for many years.  He worked tirelessly on behalf of those living in his ward.  Above all, Roger was always polite, friendly, and a real character to everyone he met.

He will be sorely missed by my group, by colleagues across the Council, and by the residents of Welwyn Hatfield. Our thoughts go out to his wife and family at this difficult time.

Councillor Tony Kingsbury, Leader of the Welwyn Hatfield Conservative Group

Councillor Trigg spent years representing residents across the borough, both as a ward Councillor and as Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield.

Roger was always welcoming, fair minded and ready with something to contribute, and he leaves behind a legacy of service that will not be forgotten.

My deepest condolences go out to his colleagues in the Conservative Group, and to all those who knew and loved him.

Councillor Max Holloway, Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council

Councillor Trigg was above all a kind, gentle man who was unfailingly courteous.  His many years of service are a testament to his dedication to the Borough and his ability to connect with everyone.

He will be sadly missed by us all and our thoughts go out to his family and colleagues.

Councillor Jane Quinton, Deputy Leader of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council

Roger was a very good friend and colleague when I was a councillor with him in Panshanger.

He was always there for everyone, and he will be sadly missed not only by the council, but his friends and especially his family. RIP.

Roger's passing is a loss to everyone who values public service in Welwyn Hatfield. It was an extraordinary achievement to serve people as councillor in our community for nearly 30 years. He held almost every role imaginable on the council and in my interactions with him, he was unfailingly warm and generous with his time. My thoughts are with his Conservative Party colleagues, all of his friends and above all - his family.

Andrew Lewin MP for Welwyn Hatfield

Many years ago I was a bricklayer and worked for Durkin bros, Roger was the chief surveyor, (who was very helpful as I was young and inexperienced). I have lived in Tewin & Digswell for 35 years, and was happy knowing that the great man was our councillor.

David Stratford, Malone & Stratford Brickwork Contractors Ltd

For around 24 years from year 2000, I was involved with Welwyn Hatfield Conservatives, mainly assisting Grant Shapps in his 4-5 year long election campaigns. During this time, I came across Roger many times as a friendly person very willing to help if he possibly could. Roger with his wife Carole arranged many successful fund raising events at his house and gardens. Roger will be much missed. His family and many friends have my deepest sympathy.

Michael Leach, North East Herts Conservative Association

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Roger, whom I knew as the father of my school friend Adam and later as a dedicated Borough Councillor. Roger was a Parish Councillor a few years before I joined, but always took the time to chat to me at Annual Welwyn Parish Council meetings and was extremely generous with his thoughts and advice, which I was very grateful for. A true gentleman who will be very much missed. My heartfelt condolences to Roger’s family.

Councillor Mark Castle, Welwyn Parish Council

We are all greatly saddened to hear the news of Roger's passing. He was a great supporter and advocate of Jubilee House and made a real difference to our profile in the community. Beyond his great nature, his generosity of spirit was always evident for what the team were doing for the children and adults we support. He'll be greatly missed. With deepest sympathy to all his family and friends The Jubilee House team.

Roger it was a pleasure seeing you and knowing you the times you visited your daughter who is also our neighbour me and my family always came out to say hello how’s your day going, you was such a lovely man with a great sense of humour you’ll be sadly missed from all of us family.

I first met Roger in 1980 when he was a director at Durkin Brothers and we reconnected many years later through the Chartered Quantity Surveyors Association and through our membership of Probus. He had an infectious sense of humour and he inspired many through his ability to deal, it seemed effortlessly, with challenges of all shapes and sizes. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and I send my sincere condolences to his wife Carol, and to all his family.

Stephen Jackson

I met Roger when he volunteered to help leaseholders and became a valuable member of the committee of the Federation of Private Residents Associations, bring not only his personal experience but also experience from his commercial work and council volunteering. I well remember his help and good humour.

I knew Roger and his family outside of the political arena but know that Roger had served the borough for many years. Roger was a family man, a good man, intelligent and witty. I was truly shocked at the suddeness of his loss after a short illness. I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family as I know Rogers passing is an enormous loss to them.

Mark Sheppard

I got to know Roger in recent years through our mutual membership of the Welwyn Garden City Campus Club and always enjoyed his company travelling to, and being at, the club's monthly lunches. He had a warm and welcoming character and was clearly very committed to the many activities he was involved with.  I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing and I send my sincere condolences to Carol and family.

I was saddened to read of the passing of Roger Trigg. I met him in business many years ago when he and I were both members of the Association of Contractor's Chief Surveyor's.

We met intermittently at the Russell Hotel to discuss quantity surveying aspects of the construction industry. He was a kind and intelligent man.

I have been a resident of Welwyn Garden City for 38 years and have, like many, benefited from his second career as a dedicated public servant of the Council. He will be much missed. My condolences to his family and friends

My deepest sympathy and condolences to Roger’s family. I worked with Roger on the Development Management Committee and as a fellow Councillor. Roger was friendly, patient and understanding and extremely knowledgeable. He was always happy to support and assist his fellow Councillors.
