Lemsford Draft Character Assessment - Consultation

Lemsford Draft Character Assessment Consultation 01 February to 15 March 2023

We have a duty to review conservation areas in the Borough, as well as considering new designations.  A Draft Character Assessment has been prepared for the Lemsford area with a view to possible designation as a conservation area.

Conservation area designation introduces additional planning controls and considerations, which exist to protect an area’s special character and appearance, and the features that make it unique and distinctive. These can include the need for planning permission for some development, demolition and tree works.

The document identifies the special character and appearance of the Lemsford area, and the main features of architectural and historic interest. It assesses the suitability of the area for designation and proposes a conservation area boundary.

The consultation closed on 15 March 2023.

Next steps:

We are now processing the reponses received.  These will be published on our website and a report with comments received will be presented to our Cabinet Planning and Parking Panel (CPPP).

This report will include:

  • a recommendation on whether to designate Lemsford as a conservation area
  • any proposed modifications to the character assessment and the conservation area boundary

If Lemsford is designated as a conservation area and the Character Assessment adopted, we will use this in making decisions about future planning applications (along with other local and national policy documents).
