Temporary Accommodation Rent in Social Housing Policy Statement

3.1 Within the Councils housing stock, there are a number of units specifically for temporary accommodation to support demands on homelessness. In addition, the council can make use of its general needs stock. For new lets from 1 April 2026, the council adopts the following policy principles in relation to the setting of rent in its HRA stock being used for temporary accommodation:

a) Rents will be charges based on the Local Housing Allowance applicable to the size and area of the property:

b) Decisions to make use stock for temporary accommodation on a temporary basis will be carefully balanced against general needs, with decisions taken by the Strategic Housing Board (this is a senior officer group, enabling rapid responses the changing demands of services).
