Applying for a transfer and bidding for properties is the same for existing council tenants as it is for home seekers (those people not currently living in a council or housing association property).

We advertise and offer homes to applicants on our waiting list through our choice based lettings scheme.

Before making an application you will need to complete a brief pre-assessment questionnaire. After completing the questionnaire you will be presented with information about your most suitable housing options.

If you are eligible for a transfer you will be asked to complete a Housing Needs Register application.

All transfer applications are awarded a priority banding based on their housing need, in accordance with the Housing Allocations Policy.

The process of applying for a transfer and bidding for available properties is the same for existing council tenants as it is for home seekers (those people not currently living in a council or housing association property).

For further information about the application process and how applications are prioritised, take a look at the applying for housing section of our website.

Property condition and repair work

When you have given notice to terminate your existing tenancy, arrangements will be made for a pre-termination inspection.

This inspection will identify (as far as practically possible) any aspects of disrepair or unauthorised tenant alterations, which are the responsibility of the tenant/licensee. An opportunity will be given to rectify any remedial works prior to the end of the tenancy for which we are not responsible for.

If any such defects are not remedied prior to the end of the tenancy, or if the work is not of a satisfactory standard, a recharge may then be raised for the cost of the works.

If the property has been left in an unacceptable condition, we may in certain circumstances, arrange for clearance to take place and will recharge the cost back to you.
