Staying safe in your home

We are responsible for keeping lifts and chairlifts in council homes and communal areas safe and well maintained. This includes lifts in houses, flats, communal areas in our blocks and Independent Living schemes.

Inspection and testing

• We carry out communal passenger lift inspections every 6 months
• Any faults are addressed as soon as possible, and if necessary, the lift taken out of service until it can be fixed. We will notify you if this happens.
• There is monthly planned maintenance on all communal lifts.

How you can help

• Please do not use the lift in the event of a fire
• Please do not overload the lift 
• If the lift stops while you are in it, press the call button to speak to the lift company for assistance.
• If you suspect a lift has a fault, please call the Housing Maintenance Team on 0800 111 4484 immediately.
