Haldens Car Park & Shops Parking Consultation
A parking consultation survey was conducted between 13 December 2024 and 9 February 2025, and we received responses from residents, visitors, and businesses.
At this stage, no final decision has been made regarding parking restrictions. The suggestions outlined below are based on the survey and feedback data, which highlighted a level of concern around parking issues.
Suggested Parking Restrictions
- Marking out parking bays in front of the shops.
- Time-limited parking in approximately half of the bays (suggested near the Nisa end, which is more frequently used for short visits).
- Suggested restriction: Monday to Saturday, 9am–5pm, maximum stay of 2 hours (with a 4-hour no return).
No changes to the car park:
The car park will remain free of time limits. Existing EV bays, loading bay, and disabled bays will remain unchanged.
Survey results indicates support for short-stay parking to help shoppers access local businesses. Concerns were raised that unrestricted parking may reduce turnover and limit availability for customers.
Feedback
Letters setting out the idea were sent to all businesses by the shops and adjacent properties. The feedback stage closed on 10 October 2025, and we received just one response. This response was in favour of the proposed restrictions. While the level of engagement was low, it’s worth noting that consultations of this nature typically attract responses from those who oppose a proposal. Therefore, the absence of negative feedback can reasonably be interpreted as a general level of support or acceptance from the businesses and wider community.
Next Steps
Given the outcome, we feel confident in progressing to the next stage. We will now begin drafting the necessary documents to formally advertise a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) in late 2025/early 2026 proposing the introduction of these restrictions in the bays in front of the shops.
