Planning considerations street naming and numbering

Street naming and numbering

We are responsible for the naming and numbering of streets and buildings.

This is to ensure that any new street or building names and numbers conform to national standards.

You can find out more in our Street naming and numbering policy.

Applying for a new street name and/or postal numbering

To apply for a new street name or number for new properties:

  • complete the street naming application form
  • include a copy of the development site plan showing plot layouts, with the correct plot numbers clearly marked
  • pay the fee

Applying to change a house, building or business name

To add a name to your house*, or change a building or business name:

  • complete the change of name application
  • include a plan showing the exact location of the property (if it is not easily identifiable from the existing address)
  • include the date from which the name should be changed (if not immediate)
  • pay the fee

* If a property has an officially allocated number we cannot replace the number with a name. So if you use a house name the address you must still include the number.
