Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)

The community infrastructure levy (CIL) is a non-negotiable planning charge introduced by the government under the Planning Act 2008 to provide a fair and transparent means for ensuring that development contributes to the cost of the infrastructure it will rely upon such as schools and roads.

On 12 March 2025, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council voted to approve the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedule with an implementation date of 1 October 2025. All applications granted permission on or after 1 October 2025 may be liable to pay a CIL charge.
