Introduction of a Private Rented Sector Landlord Ombudsman
A Private Rented Sector Landlord Ombudsman will handle disputes between landlords and tenants.
Their decisions will be legally binding and all landlords will need to register with the scheme.
Private rented sector database
All landlords will have to register their properties on a new national Database for Landlords and Local Councils.
Meeting the Decent Homes Standard
The Decent Homes Standard will be extended to the private rental sector.
This includes making sure properties:
- are safe and well-maintained
- are free from serious hazards (such as damp and poor insulation)
- are fit for human habitation
- meet Awaab’s Law which requires landlords to address damp and mould issues within set timescales.
