Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Register

Who is eligible to join the Self-build Register

We keep a register of individuals and associations wanting to acquire land in Welwyn Hatfield for their own self-build or custom housebuilding project. This helps us assess the demand for serviced plots of land and contact you if suitable land becomes available.

To be eligible to join the register you must:

  • be aged 18 or over (if you are an association all members must be over 18)
  • be a British citizen, a national of an EEA State other than the United Kingdom, or a national of Switzerland
  • be seeking, either alone or with others, to acquire a serviced plot of land in the authority's area to build their own self-build or custom housebuilding project and
  • have paid any fee required to join or remain on the register.

Additional local eligibility conditions, (a local connection test and a financial resources statement), also apply.

The register is split into two parts:

  • Part 1: For Individuals and Associations who pay the appropriate fee and meet all the eligibility criteria including the local connection test; and

  • Part 2: For Individuals and Associations who pay the appropriate fee and meet all the eligibility criteria except the local connection test.
