Legal Implications

4.1 UK General Data Protection Regulations, Data Protection Act 2018, and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 create an obligation for the Council to implement CCTV systems in an overt manner with a consideration of the privacy and personal information rights of individuals and to make people aware of the presence of CCTV.

4.2 Provision of a written policy is beneficial to ensure that our legal obligations are met and also promotes openness with the community and transparently communicates the expectations, freedoms and rights of individuals.

4.3 This policy demonstrates the Council’s commitment to being responsible and ensuring that we are delivering compliant services that balance the Council’s statutory and commercial purposes with residents’ rights and expectations.
