Environmental enforcement

Environmental enforcement and Fixed Penalty Notices

We with work with our partners Kingdom to make our borough cleaner, safer and greener.

Our Corporate Enforcement Policy governs how we do this. It follows the Regulators' Code issued by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.

We can fine or prosecute anyone committing an environmental crime that damages local street scene.

Our officers patrol wherever littering happens, this is often in our Town Centres.

We may issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for:

  • leaving out your rubbish and recycling bins too early, or contaminating your recycling boxes or bins
  • graffiti and flyposting
  • business premises not disposing of their waste correctly
  • households not disposing of their waste properly in line with duty of care
  • fly-tipping (including leaving bags next to street litter bins or recycling banks)
  • littering (including cigarette ends, chewing gum, fast food and wrapping)

Once an offence has been committed, officers are able to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice fine.

They do do not give warnings.
