Resident Involvement

Neighbourhood Champions

Our Neighbourhood Champions are community spirited residents.

You can help to make a difference to where you live.

You can work with us to make your neighbourhood cleaner, greener and more friendly.

Who can be a Neighbourhood Champion?

You can be a Neighbourhood Champion if you are:

  • a council tenant or leaseholder
  • over 18 years old
  • willing to work in partnership with our Housing Estates team
  • keen to support your local area.

You must also have no outstanding disputes or tenancy breaches with us

What does a Neighbourhood Champion do?

Neighbourhood Champions tell us what matters most to you and your community.

Your ‘neighbourhood’ could be your street, your estate or just a small part of it.

Whatever you feel comfortable with.

Neighbourhood Champions do things like:

  • report issues such as graffiti, fly-tipping and Anti Social Behaviour
  • check communal areas
  • feedback on our contractors
  • take part in estate walkabouts
  • suggest a Nicer Neighbourhoods project
  • promote our role in opportunities and activities.

We will carry out a risk assessment of all activities to help keep you safe.

Neighbourhood Champions should not:

  • report individual issues or repairs for their neighbours
  • enter anyone else’s home or garden without permission
  • attempt to resolve conflicts
  • represent neighbours in their dealings with us
  • act as a council official.

Commitment

This is a flexible role that fits in with your life.

You can decide how involved you want to be.

It can be as little or as much as you like.

You will be connecting with the community, inspiring others and helping us to maintain your area.

It will help make sure it is a place where people are proud to live.
