Tenant Management Organisations (TMOs)
A TMO allows tenants and leaseholders to collectively take on the responsibility for managing the area or block they live in.
The council would continue to own the property and tenants would keep their existing tenancies.
In some ways, managing a TMO is similar to running a small business.
The TMO members are responsible for issues such as:
- day-to-day repairs
- grounds maintenance
- cleaning
- collecting rents
A TMO can choose how much of the day-to-day housing management it would like to take over from the council.
Theere are certain criteria that must be met.
This includes things like holding a vote and giving the council formal notification of the proposed intentions.
