Tenancy Audit Policy

Tenancy Fraud
12.1 Social housing is a limited resource, so we must make sure homes are lived in by the people who are legally entitled to them.
12.2 As part of the audit, we may ask to see identification so we can confirm who lives in the home.
12.3 We understand that sometimes people’s circumstances change, and we are here to help you update your records if needed.
12.4 If we believe that someone is living in the property who does not have the right to be there, we will discuss this with you and work to understand the situation.
12.5 Where fraud is confirmed, we must take action, but our priority is always to resolve issues fairly and supportively first.
12.6 We participate in the government’s National Fraud Initiative, and we encourage residents to report housing fraud at Fraud.Team@hertfordshire.gov.uk.
12.7 Where fraud is suspected the Council works with the Hertfordshire Shared Anti-Fraud Service (SAFS) and you can find out more about their work online.
